A Smile for Everyone at Lovelane’s Birthday Bash
On Saturday, October 24th we celebrated our fifth birthday in the new barn. Over 100 guests came in out of the rain to eat, play and mingle. Old friends and new came together to mark this milestone and recognize how far we’ve come since the days on Love Lane in Weston. Children clowned around, ate delicious gourmet cupcakes, played games and had their faces painted. The barn was decorated with lights, flowers and pumpkins. Three students rode in a demonstration while their parents shared their stories with the audience. Thanks to all the volunteers who helped make this event such a success and to all of you who came out to celebrate with us.
The Feet of our Four Footed Friends are Feelin’ Fantastic (say that five times fast!)
We are so excited to have new footing in both the indoor and outdoor rings! Julie Clifford, our Facilities Coordinator, researched, negotiated and scheduled the delivery of the footing. She chose a rubber/coarse sand combination for the indoor arena and coarse sand for the outdoor, which should last for ten to 15 years and feel great under foot for our hard working herd of therapy horses. Great Job Julie!
In Honor of a Dear Friend
Many of you have already heard of the passing of Elsie Rodney’s beloved Morgan, Echo. Echo was put to rest on October 21st and this great horse will be missed by all who knew him. Echo was a champion show horse and a dedicated therapeutic riding horse. Echo served the children of Lovelane with patience and love, teaching us all the meaning of unselfish service. Special thanks to Elsie for sharing this amazing animal with us.
We have established The Echo Fund to honor his memory. Contributions to the fund will support the ongoing care of Lovelane’s therapeutic horses. Email Sally@lovelane.org for more information or to contribute to this fund.
Get to Know one of our New Students
If you came to our birthday party, you’ve already met Eddie. One of our new riders, Eddie joined us earlier this year when a spot opened up and he came off the waitlist. This year we featured his story in our annual appeal letter. Follow this link www.lovelane.org/donation to read his story. We’re honored to be a part of his life and delighted that riding at Lovelane is helping him to meet some of his goals.
Lovelane launches our Stable of Leadership
The annual appeal is out and this year we hope to raise $100,000 to support the children who ride here. It’s never too late to give and every gift counts. Does your company match employee charitable giving? We've completed a partial list of companies who might match gifts. Link to list
We’re thrilled to announce The Stable of Leadership; Lovelane’s giving society for major donors who can support us with annual gifts of $5,000 or above. A number of very generous and dedicated friends have already made gifts to The Stable. These gifts will help to ensure a strong and enduring future for Lovelane and the young athletes who ride here.
Volunteers are always Needed
We rely on our dedicated corps of volunteers. We use nearly 100 volunteers each week in order to keep our therapeutic lessons running smoothly. If you are over 16 years old, are comfortable and familiar with horses and can make a weekly commitment, please email Lisa@lovelane.org or call Lisa at 781 259.1177 extension 26.
Welcome to Will, Pumpkin Pie & Spike
We’re so happy that we have a full herd of therapy horses and they’re all doing fantastically well. Meet our new friends:
Pumpkin Pie is a 14-year-old red roan Welsh Quarter Horse cross. She is 14.2 hands making her the smallest in the barn but what she lacks in size she makes up for in enthusiasm for her new job. She has instantly become a favorite among our students.
Will is a 14-year-old laid-back bay Quarter Horse with a wonderful, gentle personality. He is one of our bigger guys standing 16 hands high. You can usually find him with his large lovable head hanging out of his stall waiting for a new best friend to wander past.
Spike is a cute Fjord. He has a black Mohawk that runs down the center of his dun colored mane which is a trademark of the breed. He is 9 years old, which makes him the youngest horse in our herd. At 14.3 hands, this guy is stocky, sturdy and bursting with personality.
Shoppin’ and eatin’ for a Good Cause
‘Tis the season! We’re all eating and shopping our way through the rest of the year and right on in to 2010.
On December 5th Lovelane friends and supporters shopped at Pierre Deux on Newbury Street. Shoppers got a discount and the store donated 10% of each purchase back to us! This delightful event raised $2,000 for Lovelane. Special thanks to Lovelane Volunteer, Christina Markunas and her mother Mary Beth for making this event possible!
Our wonderful friends at Blue Ribbon Barbeque (Newton & Arlington) are at it again. Can’t you just smell that pulled pork? Consider a catering order or a gift card and keep your receipts. Blue Ribbon will donate 5% of every gift card purchase over $50.00 and 15% of every catering order placed and paid for between December 1st and February 7th. Send your receipts to Sally or Jennifer at Lovelane. What could be better? A delicious barbeque meal to keep your tummy warm and a contribution to Lovelane to warm your heart! Check them out at www.blueribbonbbq.com.
Remember, no receipt…no donation!
